World 1-2 VGS: Tomodachi Life

Video Game Spotlight: Tomodachi Life

Your Friends. Your Drama. Your Life.

If there was one word to describe Tomodachi Life, it would be... quirky. Watch as your Miis playfully roll about on the floor, perform ballerina spins in a dinosaur costume or have babies (wait, that's not quirky!)

Tomodachi Life is a life simulation game published by Nintendo and released in June 7 in our region. I'm still playing this game ever since then. It's THAT addictive.

Basically, you plop down a whole of Miis on an island by either importing them using a QR code/Mii Maker or you can make them yourself. Then watch as your Miis go about their daily business.

You get very little to start with at the beginning, but more and more facilities start to pop up in the island, like the Concert Hall (where you can make a song with your own lyrics), the CafĂ© (where Miis gather to chat) and the Amusement Park (where you can play a retro RPG featuring your Miis).

At its core, Tomodachi Life is basically about solving problems. The Miis that live in your island can request food and clothing, as well as helping them make friends, patch up fights and confess their love to somebody. This will increase their Happiness bar (which is set up like an EXP bar), which will allow you to give them various gifts to enhance their lifestyle. You can watch as your male Mii apply eyeliner and blush on themselves... too funny!

When Miis are asleep, they often have dreams that crank up the quirkiness up to eleven:

"Did you know? When kittens grow up... they turn into dogs."

Words and pictures alone can't describe the quirkiness that Tomodachi Life has to offer; so try looking at the links after the stinger to get a good idea of it. While the gameplay and customization are lacking to some, the real power comes from the investment that you've placed in your Miis. Marrying Solid Snake and Samus together? It's totally possible!

This game is available for the Nintendo 3DS in physical and digital form.

See you in the next stage!
